Does anyone have experience with Dendrobates imitator intermedius?

jkins Aug 03, 2004 02:55 PM

I am currently in the process of purchasing three juvs. I just wanted to see what everyone thought about these guys and maybe some experience that anyone has had with them. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone know where I can buy some termites???? I could use some for my frogs that I have already have.
Thanks, Josh

Hey there: I have D. Imitators. Going on 1.3 years. I love, love, love them! I got a trio from Tor Limbo and did only a month of research before getting them and have never regretted it!!! Set up is 33 gal vertical, CF lights, CPU fan both on timer. Temp range(summer 74-79), winter(72-76). Auto sprayer 3 times a day. People had told me about how sensitive they were, how shy they were. I bever experienced either!!! Mine are hardier then my Colbalt TIncs!! They lay eggs constantly and I recently found a perfectly morphed juv. Easiest as heck to feed since they will take larger prey then other thumnails-they even eat the full size Hedei!! Only down fall-because they are small, they are harder to find in the tank when hiding, and impossible to catch in a well planted tank!!!! And you'd better have the right tank(one that is completely ff proof!)because they can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks!! They have given me a wonderful first experience with Darts and bolstered my confidence in the continuing on in the hobby!! who will you be getting yours from??

Wow. That is good to hear your having such great success with them. I am kind of nervous just because of what you hear about thumbnails and how sensitive they can be. As far as the setup for them I have a 30gal Xtra High with a drainage system. Also have an automatic mister on it as well. Just curiuos? How do you run the CPU fan on the tank? If possible is there anyway you could email pics of your set-up...if not its no biggy. My email address is joshkinsey@hotmail.com. I'm glad they take larger prey items because I have some jammin Hydei cultures going now. What type of plants do you have in the tank? I have found a couple Bromeliad species but would like to know others as well. Hope I am not asking too many questions I am just pumped to get these little guys. I should be getting them next week from Patrick Nabors of saurian.net I have heard great things about him so I'm sure they will nice and fat. Thanks for the response and hope to hear from you soon.
Josh
