Wooo!!! Finaly he ate a rabbit

Justin Stricklin Aug 03, 2004 03:41 PM

I have had my 7' albino to constrict 2 rabbita about 2 weeks ago (they enede up on the grill though) but did not eat them. He had tried to swallow them with the back of the head first and he gave up after a couple hours. Well, today I got some weaned rats (petstore has no big ones right now). I gave him one of them and he gobbled it up like a jelly bean. I got one of the other 2 and broke te neck and brained it. I smeared the brain all over the rabbits head, particularly the nosae area so it would not try to swollow back of head first. As son as the rat that I gave him was completely gone I put the rabbit in fornt of him and BAM!!!.hit it like a ton of bricks. It took a little over 1 1/2 hours to swallow. I am hoping the rabbit is not to big. It is about 3-4 lbs. I know that is pushing it but oh well. I have no other sizes right now and was going to wait about 2 weeks whne my baby rabbits were weaned and had a little size to them. It left only a lump a little bigger than the rooster I fed to him a few weeks ago. If he makes it about 4 days with out regurging I am happy. I do not think it will. I might get some pics tomarrow of him. I do not want to bother him right now becauseof obvious reasons. Oh and the funny thing is he was still looking for food after he was done. Well, sorry for going on and on like I usualy do but I had to share.

GODDAMN that sounded like the begining to a horror movie or somthing. Swearin the brains all over and crap haha. I would never imagine a snake having the taste for a type of brain but hell it worked didnt it, good job but i sure as hell wont be trying that method anytime soon.

I have been messing with colubrids for a while and I ave got just about everything to eat what I want it to and when I want it to. I must just have good luck at it or a technique I use that I'm not aware of. I have evn got a queen snake to eat a fuzzy mouse and i have never heard of wnyone ever switching them over. No one else that I talked to had heard of it. My degi cam. was messed up and all so I could not get pics. One of my main tricks is to use the braining thing. Everyone who meses with colubrids have at least heard of split braining pinkies. It works just fine with rats too. So I just though why not take out some brain and smear on the rabbit. It realy is no big deal and I would do that with everything I try to switch now. It worked lik a charm. I do not know what it is about the brain. Blood does not seem to do much with scenting in my experieces, but it might work wiht others I do not know. I can reuse the rat too because it still has plenty in the head. I froze it of course. I do not know why I did not try that before. It is still in the snake so that is good.

You smeared brain all over the rabbit!? I'm gunna hurl! I know ya gotta do what ya gotta do, it's just gross. My daughter's (15)friend from school has a corn snake. She called one day to ask if she could give him some of our rat pinkies that had just popped out. I said yes but was unsure how to kill them. I use a steel rod on big ones but never had to wack babies. I came home and she had already taken care of it. I was stumped as to how since this is the kid who would cry at the site of a dead squirrel on the street. She would comfort them while she held them, tell them it was OK, then flick em in the head with her fingers until dead. Bloughahahhaough.

Yea, I thought everyone knew that. Well, not to smear brain on a rabbit, but to poke a hole in a pinky/fuzzy head and to squeeze the brain out and rub on it's own nose and head. I have enver heard of anyone doing what I did, but it worked didn't it.lol. It does not gross me out a bit. I could eat something while/after doing it and it would not bother me.

As for her killing the pinky by wacking it. There is no good way to kil pinkys without CO2 or to freeze them. They can go longer without oxygen so co2 I would say would take longer. Anyoen else with experience seeing that pinkies can go longer without oxygen? Wacking them in the head will kill them but it is not so good with pinkies. Freezing them taked about 10 minutes or so for them to die. It seems they do much like reptiles and just slow down and curl up and die so I'm sure it hurts but not as bad. I get my pinkies frozen already so I do not have to care about how to do it anymore. I quite rasing mice/rats. They smell bad and I cannot raise them fast enough. rabbits on the other hand will do good once they start and I will feed all my colubrids and other snakes that can eat them rabbits. When I get a hatchling retic. I will feed it baby rabbits.
