I brought Turbo to the vet today...

Turbo1 Aug 03, 2004 04:54 PM

And he said that he has an infection in his eyes due to the sand in the tank. There was also a lot of sand in his eyes. I've had him for three years and never had a problem with the sand. He recommended cage carpet which I purchased and put in his tank, but I noticed in the pictures on here a lot of you use sand, so....what do think? Does anyone have a preference? Turbo has to take oral antibiotics once daily and eye cream three times daily. I'm just hoping he feels better soon.

thanks,
Jackie

Hi Jackie,

I personally have never been a huge fan of carpeting for reptiles. If wet, it can harbor fungus or bacteria (unless of course you clean it regularly). There are also brands that have caused lizard claws to get caught in the carpet, thus damaging the claws themselves, or fingers.

We use newspaper for our quarantine procedures. It is inexpensive and you can change it as needed. You may also use paper towels.

Good luck!
