venomous shows

metalpest Aug 03, 2004 05:36 PM

Where are the venomous allowed shows? I know of the ones in Daytona, San Antonio, South Carolina, and Hamburg. Are there any others?

The Orlando Reptile Show has venomous as part of its show. The next one is October 1st and 2nd, 2005. There were 8 venomous exhibitors covering 16 spaces. There will be venomous demos at the next one much like the first show. There will be more info posted as the year goes on.

I heard something about that. Some people are saying after the bite at Daytona there may not be any more venomous shows in Fl. Only 8 vendors? I hope there will be more next time. Were they separate from the others or was it a mixed show?

We had a separate room. Rick Brown the area wildlife inspector was present and participated in a panel discussion about the future of venomous keeping and exhibition. He did not indicate that bites will stop vendors attending the shows. I think that is a management issue. If bites keep happening it may affect legislation in Florida. For now there does not seem to be any plans to stop exhibition at expos.

Someone was saying the bite may lead to legislation. Also, cities and counties in Fl are banning venomous, it is becoming harder and harder to keep them.

When the panel discussion occured at the show. Rick Brown indicated a class system similar to the Wild Life Class I, II and III. In some of the cities, home owners association, county lands there are laws that prevent people from having all sorts of animals. I agree it will become more difficult to possess the venomous. Snake bites that are in the media do not help. By Florida Law you have to report any injuries from animals you keep even if they are not venomous. I don't know how everyone else feels about more laws, but I don't want any more restrictions, because some one else screwed up.
