Blue Beauties-Anyone have them?

metalpest Aug 03, 2004 05:51 PM

I was considering getting a pair of these, they sure are remarkable. I was wondering how much a baby should cost. Ive looked on the classifieds but they only seem to have adults. I found one place locally that has them for $100 but I dont want to pay it if it is too much. This would also be my first rat (with licorice blacks soon to follow) so I was also wondering about care. Is this a cooler temp rat, like mandarins (which Im also interested in getting when I have more to spend) and do they live in moist environments? Easy to handle? Breed (I plan to breed them btw)? Rats are beautiful snakes and I cant wait to start getting heavily involved with them.

Last year in daytona i picked up a nice looking pair for 150$. They can be a little defensive though. They are a lot like racers in their attitudes. Mine do not like to be handeled at all. They will stay still for a couple of seconds before try to fly out of my hands. . . And they are extreemly fast.

So, how much should I pay for babies?

There are some for sale on the classifieds for 110 per pair.

Thanks, I see them now. That will keep me from paying $100 for one out here. Id rather not ship, though, and also be able to pick them out, and those were related, Id like a nonrelated pair. Now that I have a better idea about the price Ill look out for a good deal, maybe make an offer at the reptile show in Sept. where I expect to see those beauties for sale.

I had a large (nine foot) male. He did fine (without AC in South Florida. I have seen several others here that all are doing well, so I think it is a safe bet that temp is not an issue like with mandarins.

Thanks Frank!

Q: Are you a breeder or just a keeper? I do notice you have a lot of snakes.
