Hello:
Armadillo Lizards belong to the family Cordylidae. Plated Lizards are close relatives. All species are found in Africa, most being found in the southernmost regions. There are a couple species commonly imported that come from the northermost part of the range.
The species most often available (and the least expensive are the Forest Armadillo Lizard and the Jone's Armadillo Lizard. They are closely related, being subspecies of each other.
These Lizards are from dry, savannah areas with some trees being present. For the most part they like drier conditions with very warm basking sites. A hundred degree basking site would be great for these lizards. They are also fond of rock piles and if set up right will make themselves at home among the rocks.
These lizards will eat nearly anything offered to them though I have found them to be partial to mealworms. Some will also nibble at fruits and veggies.
One of the nicest things about these unique lizards is that they give birth to live babies, 1 to 3 being the usual number of young. They babies usually eat well and grow quickly.
Hope this info helps. Have a Great Day!!!
