BAby burm, no interest in food.

itsrep Aug 03, 2004 07:40 PM

I have this very tame baby albino burm for a little over a week. I tried to feed her and she shows no interest in food. I don't know what the person I got it from was feeding it or if it has even eaten at all, it looks pretty young. But i think it looks a little skinny too.

I'm trying to feed her mice right now, therye alive and I haven't tested giving it to her dead yet.
should I kill one and see if she will take it?
if she doesn't how long before I force feed it?

First off I must say that force feeding should only be done by experienced personnel and only as a last resort. I mean almost a life or death situation. Force feeding causes imense amounts of stress on a snake and cause it to be traumatized by the experience to the extent that it will be afraid of its prey items. Your snake is very young looking. I wouldn't worry about it right now. Leave it alone for another week. Let it settle in. Limit handling sessions for this time also. Only handle the snake if necassary. After a week try and give it a f/t p/k mouse or rat pup. Let us know what progress you are making but please do not force feed. Todd

I agree with todd, he looks like a hatchling..He is prolly still surviving on his yoak sac inside..lol...wait till another shed or so..he'l take a small mouse pup or something along those lines..let him be for awhil then throw in there live or prekilled pup..everything should go fine
