Female Veiled wondering bottom

elfunko Aug 03, 2004 08:49 PM

I'm not with my chams and haven't seen this behavior because I have been in Oregon since Saturday. But what my girlfriend has described to me over the phone is the female will climb down to the bottom of the cage, change from her normal green to have her stripes appearent and also blue dots show all over. After a little she will climb back up the cage. This just started about 2 days ago and my female is still very young, only 2-3 inches from head to vent (not including tail). I've not heard of this behavior before except for a gravid female, but when they are gravid don't they show the gravid coloration all the time? And she's just too tiny I think for that to be the case. Any ideas?

Check your cage temperature to make sure the basking area is not too hot. Your veiled may be trying to cool down. Another thing that may cause this, is a search for food. My young veileds sometimes roam the cage bottom if I wait til later in the day to feed them. Hope this helps,
Cricket
