How long to deposit a whole clutch?

Krazy-K Aug 04, 2004 12:35 AM

Yup, that's the question.
How long does it usually take for a king to deposit her clutch? And I realize that each snake is unique, but as a good guidline, how long?
The reason I am asking, my female thayeri just left a gift outside her humid hide. I would guess by the weird color that it is bad. Here's a look.
I was just wondering how long I was going to be up waiting.
Thanks

Yeah, I'd say that's a bad egg, but stranger things have happened. If it's bad you'll certainly know for sure within a week.
You'll need to provide us with a bit more info on your snake, (ie when she was bred and when was her last shed) for us to pinpoint the depositing of her clutch. But it usually takes anywhere from just a couple of hours to a couple of days for them to lay a complete clutch once they get started, depending on how many eggs there are. Also, they will sometimes drop bad eggs a few days before laying the rest of the clutch, so just keep your eye on her and don't be alarmed if she goes another 5-7 days or so before settling down in her egg box.

Best of Luck!

Let's see......her last shed was saturday the 18th of july. As far as when she was bred goes, I housed her all of june with her mate. Never witnessed copulation, but I was not prepared to breed this season. She started refusing food about March 25th or so. By the end of may I was sure she was gravid. Now I only hope the bred, and in time. Thanks for the reply, if you can tell, this is my first time as an expectant reptile father.

Well it sounds like if she's gonna lay eggs for you you best be ready for it SOON, as it should be ANYTIME now if she hasn't done it already for you. Gravid females will typically lay a clutch 1-2 weeks after a 'pre-lay' shed. Which, if you said she last shed July 18th, could be any time now, providing she IS gravid of course. Don't worry if she goes over by a couple days, that's normal. But as I said above, if they're carrying some slugs they will typically (but not always) drop 1 or 2 5-7 days before dropping the rest of the eggs.

Are you positive she is gravid? Can you provide us with a pic of her? From the dates you said they were together then she certainly could be, even if you didn't see it ...they're sneaky like that sometimes
