King cobra feeding

drjay Aug 04, 2004 07:14 AM

Just acquired my first KIng. Currently on corn snakes. She is about 12 inches and feeding well I would appreciate anybodys experiences with switching her over to rodents. What works "best"? I have heard of attaching a pinky to the cornsnake via bioabsorbale suture material such as catgut. The catgut would be digested along with the food. You simply tie the pinkie onto the corns tail and as the tail of the corn enters so does the pinky. There is the old time scenting method wherby you bub the crap out of the rodent onto the snake. I even read a post where a woman supposedly puts snakes in a blender with catfood !! What are your experiences? I suppose I could just keep my King on snakes. If I spend $20 a month on a good size snake (I can get wholesale adult ball python for that) it may be the best option. After all the King cobra's system has evolved to handle snakes from an immunity standpoint. Why not stick with snakes. And the ball would seem like a natural choice as opposed to garter snakes or colubrids
Thanks for your help

Dr Jay

It might be a few years down the line, but finding an affordable, readily available supply of feeder snakes for a 10 ft. king cobra is gonna be a little harder than getting one adult ball python a month, cutting it up into pieces, and feeding it to your 12 inch king...

Most people go for the switch to rodents.
