How long after babies have there 1ST shed do they begin feeding?

Damon Aug 04, 2004 09:37 AM

I was just wondering how long after babies have there FIRST shed do they begin to start feeding?

Mine shed 2-days ago and last night I offered them all LIVE pinkie rats. I left the pinkies in with the snakes for about 6 hours.

But none of the snakes ate. I'm keeping the babies in clear-plastic-phillips shoe-boxes with a constant temp of around 84-88 degrees.

The temps are usually around 85 (that is the room temp because I have eggs incubating in the same room)

Some will eat right out of the egg. I saw a clutch of pastels that didn't start eating until two months of hatching and shedding. feel the snake, can you still feel yoke in the belly?
Don't stress it be patient wait days inbetween your offerings.

all 3 of mine refused rat pinks on the day after first shed, but the next day they attacked mouse fuzzys.
2 out of the 3 took rats from then on, and are eating like crazy.
The third one still wont eat rats, but it gives me a chance to compare growth rates of strictly rat -vs- strictly mouse every five days.
so far all three are 225-250 grams at just under 10 weeks old.

try mouse fuzzies
