Giant eating pinky mouse

HerperHelmz Aug 04, 2004 10:56 AM

I had more than 1 pic of her eating 3 different pinky mice, but my camera really sucks, so I give up taking pictures with it. Giant has been taking scented fuzzy mice as well.

Very nice picture indeed. I have never came across any literature that says ringneck snake will feed on pinky mouse, so your picture is the only living proof to indicate that we can change the snake's diet with knowledge, experience and imagination. a job well done.

Yea I realy wish that I got a pic of that queen snake eating a f/t fuzzy mouse. I did not think it was a big deal at the time but it sure was. I figured out why it died too. I cut it open about 4 days ago and there was a very sharp stick sticking thru the intestines. So it was not a diet of mice that killed it. I had it in the freezer by the way. So that makes 2 snakes this year that I have caught that had sharp objects inside it. 1 was the brown snake with a piece of electric fence wire and the other was the queen (which I just staed above). What next? hopefully nothing.I'm now on the hunt for another queen. I want to crack the species now. I know I can get them to eat. I just used simple stuff and trickery.

In 1993, my good old buddy Jeff LeClere reported that they will eat newborn rodents. The first time I got a ringneck to eat a pinky was an accident, I had just placed one in a tank with my 2 foot northern ringneck and left it there overnight. The snake ate that one(didn't see it though) and then it ate another one before escaping a few days later.
But other than that, as far as I know, those pics are the only proof that ringnecks will eat rodents. Although, the mouse was scented with salamander slime, I could probably also get a ringneck to eat a bird if it smelled like salamander!
