A beautiful little girl!

snakedk Aug 04, 2004 11:31 AM

I managed to find 3 beautiful little Brongersmai's imported from the US like 30m drive from me. I took home a precious little baby girl. About 12 inches. I dont know a hole lot about her but she seems very healthy - little stressed though. The shop only just got her yesterday and today she had to suffer a bunch of jolly men picking her up and playing with her sensitive little tail. Her brother tagged me. Didnt hurt but it bled A LOT. Then she had a go at me. Again didnt hurt but bled a little. So gorgeous, ill try and get a picture of her soon.

Of the 3 she was the "calmest" and the only 1 to not defecate when picked up. Right now she is just kinda sitting in the middle of her box curled up. Im hoping she will crawl into her hidebox soon.

I dont know if shes eaten or shed but im assuming she has shed once and probably eaten as well. She seems to be in pretty good shape.

Any thoughts on how soon i should try and feed her?

Im a little hyper

Hi,

If I were you I'd give her AT LEAST a week before any real interaction (feeding, handling, etc.) if not a bit more. She sounds pretty stressed and needs to just settle in. I'd just watch her to see if she seems settled in a particular favorite hide spot, then offer her a f/t mouse.

Congrats on your first blood!

Hey there,

Like BlueFox said, give her a week to settle in before you try to feed her. Aside from changing out the water/cleaning, just leave her alone. Personally I don't start handling new bloods until they've gotten a good 3 or 4 meals in them. Let us know if you have any more questions, we're a pretty helpful forum!

Congrats on the new gal though! There ain't nothin like a blood We'll look forward to pictures!

I intent to leave her for at least a week. Im planing on giving her a sub adult mouse as i think she is a bit to tiny for a fully grown one. She was the smallest (length wise) of the 3 but nearly as fat as the big male she was in with. Right now she has burrowed down into the mulch under the hidebox (she, and the other 2, were also "submerged" in the shop). The thermostat is keeping the temps at 80.5 to 84 at all times. Ideal temp is 82. I got a heat cable under the box and i can move the box slightly off the cable on very hot days if need be (doubt it though, this is den-cold-as-hell-mark).

The lid of the box (its an all grey 9.2 gallon box with a see through lid) is fogging up so i know the moisture is all right. My spare digital temp/hygrometer is broken, i didnt know. I meant to pick up a new one today at the shop but frankly with all the excitement i forgot. Ill dash out tomorrow and get a new one. Thankfully the thermostat is also a thermometer (its a digital one).Im contemplating drilling more holes through the lid. Currently i got about 30 holes that are about 2/10th of an inch. Any input?
But im pretty happy overall.

Hey,
Very nice find on your part. I would suggest that at some point in the near future you separate them and give them their very own cage and home. This will ensure a healthy and easily controlled environment to work with and makes record keeping an easy thing. As for the heat cable, you don't need to keep the hide box over the heat cable IMO, so long as the temperature (ambient) in the over all cage is in the 80-82* fahrenheit range. The warmer area of the cage can be used if they feel the need to bask or warm up; and trust me, they will find it if they need it. Bon Chance!
