She's a big fat beauty. Was she in with any males? Good luck w her.
thanks, sorry, should have read the whole post. would you care to elaborate on your husbandry with this species?
andrew
is she close to being full grown? if thats the case its time to make some phone calls, lol. beautiful monitors. i really love their looks. how large is your male?
have you had any success?
andrew
He just got her. His other female died awhile back.
the day she laid her 1st clutch, i found the male dead in same enclosure. i seriously doubt she killed him, i found no trauma on his body. i still have him frozen for a future autopsy of sorts. she may be full grown, if thats the case im thrilled because my other water monitors are 4-6 feet. she gained alot of weight since being imported back last fall. i looked around for a male, didnt find one. i keep this female in a 4hi x 4 long x 2 deep for now, she uses the entire enclosure (not much choice, its small to begin with). substrate is oak leaves, 2 sterilite containers screwed to the walls at floor and ceiling for hiding, though she laid 2 clutches in bottom one. that "nest" is just leaves too. this animal is by far fun to interact with, she is always doing something, digging climbing etc. i feed her mice, 1 per day or crickets if i am near a pet shop. if you guys know of a keeper of finschis let me know or point them in my direction. thanks, -john
andrew,
hi. she is alone for now. she laid 4 eggs in early may, then 4 eggs in early july. fun little lizard i gotta tell ya, she's got this ability to change tongue color on the spot. 1 second its pink, next it purple, then whitish. then pink again. i have gregg m, croc 2-3 and ron k as witnesses.
all the best,
-john
