RE: Border Crossing : Here are the results (fairly long)

Well, as I stated below, I had been planning to head down to the U.S. from Canada to pick up some corns and head back this way all in the same day. That was yesterday.....Here's how it went:

On the way into the U.S. we got stopped by a border guard, and fairly thoroughly interrogated. Got asked our names (me and my fiancee), how we knew each other, where we were going, why we were going there, don't people keep dogs as pets anymore?, did we have any drugs, alcohol, tobacco, can we see in the trunk, is this your car, have you ever been arrested, have you ever been denied entry into the U.S......... the list goes on. Safe to say it took at least ten minutes to get through this one guard (guess it was a slow day).

In the U.S., after picking up the snakes, we picked a box of cereal, just because there are so many more kinds in the U.S. than in Canada. On our way back across the border, we thought it was going to take quite the talk to get through. First question was where do we live? Simple enough. Next, how long have you been in the U.S.? also simple. Next, What is the total amount of purchases you have made today? First, we pointed to the $2 box of cereal, and before we could even open our mouths to mention anything else.........we were waved through!

I couldn't believe, took about 30 seconds to get back across with the snakes, they didn't ask, didn't even seem to care.
Hopefully it'll go this smoothly next time I try and do this

Was it US Border Guards coming into the US and out of the US or was it US coming in and Canadian going out or Visa Versa? I could understand the tough look going in to the US by the US and I could understand the easy look leaving the US if it was By the US (what do we care if you are leaving as long as you did not blow anything up!) But if it was Canadian Gaurds letting you back in that easy, then I would say, they need to protect their borders a bit more and at least pretend to care who is coming into their country. After all it does look kind of strange to you to drive accross the border for a few hours to pick up 1 box of ceral LOL

12 years ago my brother and I went for a fishing trip at in NW Sask. When we got to the border to Canada they ripped my truck apart, tore all our fishing gear/clothes/food/ out and it took over 5 hours. They didnt even put my door panels back on right and they screwed my stereo up.I will never go back. Not even for 20 pound pike.We didnt have anything they were looking for.

Damn, we went on a 3 week camping trip about 5 years ago. We went in through New Bunswick and maybe took all of 30 seconds to pass the "security check". It took a little longer coming back in but they wanted to know if we had purchased anything and blah blah. Maybe 2 minutes or so. No big deal.

It was U.S. guards on the way in, and Canadian on the way out (back into Canada). Still think it is pretty shameful.

Any way you can smuggle me some Alexander Keiths Ale down into North Carolina. Unfortunately they dont export it right now and from what I understand its going to be several years before they will. I cant wait that long. Please help, LOL.

You guys don't get any Keith's down there? That really sucks!
It has to be the best beer on the market up here, so I can really understand why you want some
But I've gotta say, couldn't you live closer to the border for me to smuggle it

Yup, that is some tasty stuff. I actually called the brewing company to see if they could ship some to me. They told me they were waiting for it to become the #1 beer in Canada before they would start exporting it. They figured about 4 years or so and that was a year ago. One day. There is an online petition trying to get them to expxort as well but I dont think its going to help. I tell you what, Ill meet you halfway if thats cool.
Where do you live in Canda. Id love to get back sometime, we had a great time.

I live in Ottawa, Ontario. My trip only took me into northern New York, (to Plattsburgh) so it was a fairly short trip.

Let me know where this petition is and I'll be on my way to signing it for you guys
