Conda kiss...

snakeguy88 Aug 04, 2004 01:35 PM

Not literally, but I got more than I bargained for when trying to remove some bedding from the head of my friend's new green. I didn't want to spook her by brushing it off of her head, so I just sort of blew lightly. And it turns out she was not too fond of whatever I was doin. It was a lot of fun to laugh about after it happened though. And just curious, at what temps and % humidity do yall keep your tanks? Thanks.

` That's really interesting, and good information as to the accuracy of the Anaconda's eyesight, and thought process.
` If, in fact, the Anaconda was annoyed by you blowing on her, she certainly went right to the source of it.
` I've always thought that Boids, and Anacondas in particular, have better eyesight, and better understanding of what they see, than most scientists, and other experts, give them credit for. This would certainly support that.
`
` Thanks for that post.

` I keep my Anacondas, Boa constrictors, and Ball Pythons at a floor temperature range of 72 to 85 degrees F. Interestingly, they all prefer the cooler areas, even when digesting. Humidity is always above 60%, but less than 90%.

Very interesting, as you are dead on with what I have observed in the past week or two. The hottest part of the tank is around 83 or so (give or take based on the time of day and the room temp fluctuations), and the anaconda always stays on the cooler side of the tank. That makes me less worried to hear that. I kept green tree pythons for a while and have worked with some boids, but condas are just totally new to me.

Yeah, from my experience, Anacondas, and all snakes for that matter tend to get pissed when you mess with their face. The worst are African Rock Pythons. My friend had a similar injury, only his Rock Python got him on the cheek! Just be careful when messing with a snake's face or tail. Be careful in the future!

Oh, don't get me wrong. I am not just some novice. I have had snakes for as long as I remember. I just hadn't taken a bite in the face. I am normally very careful about touching the heads of snakes especially, and I always warn people that hold snakes to grab or touch or make quick movements around the head. That is why I didn't just reach down and brush off the bedding. I know snakes do not like people touching or grabbing or playing with the head or tail regions and will often bite. I never blamed the conda and I understand perfectly well why she bit. But then again, this snake, which I just figured out, will bite even when not grabbed or prodded into biting. I was letting her just slither through my fingers which I do with practically all my snakes when I first take them out. She moved from one hand to the other, looked down at my finger, and gave it a nice little tag. But thanks for the advice anyway.

Yeah, well, even I kiss my Anaconda on the face, but she's super passive.
