"Walter" needs a new name

jenniferlm22 Aug 04, 2004 06:37 PM

My 11 year old iguanas two previos owners assumed she was a he and called him "Walter". Well I am convinced that "Walter" is a girl. I have been calling her "Walter Anne" and was going to have her sexed before actually changing her name (just to be sure). But I don't think that is necessary. She has "I AM A GIRL" written all over her. Especially when compared to some pics I have seen of males that are younger than her that have "I AM A BIG MACHO MALE" written all over them.
Anyways I need some suggestions for names. No Wanda. I hate that name. No offense if that is anyones name

Here is a pic of her so you can see how much she looks like a girl.

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Jennifer

Well im no expert but from what little i know i agree Walter looks like a girl. One name i heard of that i thought was so cute for a girl is "Igabella". My boy is named Ozzy, my son named him. For awhile we werent sure if he was really going to be a "Sharon" instead. But we are pretty sure now its a boy. Can really see the difference in the jowls, compared to your girl. Let us know what you decide on for a name. Tami

have you checked on the under side of teh legs to see if there are any pores under there? also has "she" ever developed eggs? i have seen males that look like females.. that is the only way to be sure..

Pick a name that can go both ways...lol

She has very small pores. She has never developed eggs, but she has never done anything that males do durring breeding season either. I had a male in the past and by the time he was 2 years old I knew he was definately a boy. He would leave his "stuff" all over his counter (he was a free roamer). And he would try to mate with our cat.
Acording to her past owners the only thing she would do in the winter is eat less. Maybe she did develop eggs and then reabsorb them and that is why she ate less. I don't know.
And she has always had a large cage, good food, heat, lighting so she shouldn't be small because of bad care or anything.

Did you want to stick with "W" names? Here are some ideas:

Wendy
Willa
Willow
Wednesday
Wabi (japanese for "serenity"
Wahine (hawaiian/maori for "woman"
Whitney
Wren

That's why I always find a "neutral" name unless I'm absolutely sure. "Jones" is named after the cat in "Alien" . "Wilson" is named after the volley ball in "Cast Away" . Sandy, Terry, Chris (Christopher or Christine), Tanner, Spot, Madison, Gollum, Kordo - a few neutral-type names that come to mind.
