good pellets for iggypoo's

cotton_tail_lion Aug 04, 2004 08:04 PM

Hi! I'm rather new to the discussion board, and i don't know if this question has already been asked and answered, so sorry if this is annoying to anyone, but i have an adult male iguana (sam, who was abandoned at my workplace and is a sweetiepie), and i was wondering which brand of pelleted food is best to feed him? he gets all his veggies (dandilion greens, collards, ect...) but i'd like something i can feed him in a pinch that doesn't have protein (duh), but all the brands i've seen at the store where i work have fish meal in them. any advice? Thanks!!!

Im not a big fan of pellets... i would just keep feeding him greens i wouldnt trust feeding an igg a pelelt.. theres no way to be certain of whats in there. and you have to soak them in water before you feed them to him.

I tried this one a while ago when i had my little guy.. i gave him the juvenile one of course...

also when you choose one make sure the first 5 ingredents are good becuase those are the most abundent in teh food... stay away from ones that have corn and such.. thsoe are just cheap fillers..

When I first got Tempest, he wouldn't eat anything I offered. Eventually, I left a bowl of Rep-Cal adult pellets in his cage, and he would pick at them, and then he started to really dig into them. It took me a few months to get him eating different greens and veggies, and he's still very fussy, but he will still eat Rep-Cal pellets without a problem. I don't offer them to him all that often, but if I'm going away I'll leave him a dish in his enclosure. I don't soak them personally, but Tempest will also drink from a water dish so I'm quite lucky there. He's done very well on them, and Rep-Cal has other products that are outstanding.

as long as your ig has the right diet he dosnt need pellets. veggies and greens are the best fom them. pellets if you ask me are just a way for pet stores to make money. just like bird seed. birds dont need bird food they should have fruits, veggies, wheat. and maybe a little bird seed. just because its sold in the pet stors doesnt mean its the greatest diet.

i used to hate ig's pellets but last year i adopted a beardie that had MBD.He could not digest anything but bearded dragon pellets! Those pellets saved his life!If now he is healthy and has no more signs of MBD(almost) its because of such pellets.
Pellets in general are easier to digest and have a lot of vitamins and the exact amount of calcium/phosphorus.I use to give a few everyday to my igs only to be sure they have the appropriate vitamins to grow healthy.Only around 10 pellets mixed with the greens and veggies.

Sorry but i dont know.Where i live there are no beardie pellets to be sold. When i adopted my beardie a friend of mine from Repticzone sent me a bag of beardie pellets. He said it was Juvenile beardie pellets but he never told me the brand!

i have bearded drogon pellets i give to him when i run out of crickets. he likes them. but i tried the iguana pellets once and they just picked eveything out and left the pellets. the pellets i use for my bd are called jurassi diet reptile food. it has only the highest quality ingredients without low nutritional value fillers (like corn meal).
