rttlrvenom Aug 05, 2004 09:36 AM

next summer im going out to Kanab UT/Fredonia Arizonia. Any one ever been there. Im going to my step dad's mom's house to help build a fence for her llamas, shoot Coyotes, and field herp, and im going for 2-3 weeks so ill definaly get some field herping in. She just send me a pic of a really nice Gophersnake she found. Does anyone know the rules of bag limits in UT/AZ im going to take pics for the most part and for experence but im looking for a bull snake to add to my collection and if i would happen to find a neonate bull i might decide to keep it if its legal to keep it and transport it home/ship it. Any thoughts

Coyotes are social, but they aren't very effective pack hunters. Llamas have as much to fear from a coyote as a full grown dog has to fear from a kitten. However, the truth is only what you choose to believe. Shane

P.S. The only reason you now see armadillos, skunks, racoons, opossums, and coyotes widespread (and everywhere) in the east is because of wolf eradication. Coyotes have been native to AZ for quite some time. Where did the AZ llamas come from?

Coyotes shouldn't be a problem with llamas, unless your by a nuclear power plant...

But really, llama's are used as "gaurd dogs". If one can keep a heard of sheep safe from coyote attacks, than I think an entire herd of llamas would be able to protect themselves.

"Llamas have killed coyotes which have threatened their flocks"
That is in reference to llamas gaurding sheep.

The only llama I would think a coyote would be able to get is a lone cria at the opposite side of a field from the other llamas.

Has your stepfathers mother had any problems with coyotes before? I'de be interested to hear...

I Love animals i ways have and i always will. I am from pennsylvania, and i am a hunter. In pa i help preserve the deer population by hunting, which keeps desease and starvation death down.
I am mainly going out to put up a fence to keep coyotes out, and to do some field herping. Now you must understand my steps-dads mom keeps and raises llamas, but she loves all animals. Now she will shoot a coyotes ONLY if it poses a threat to her llamas and there babies. Honestly i would rather try and drive a coyote off the land and see if that works, BUT, the coyotes that she does have probems with are the ones that start off in the back pasture and make here way to the watering hole and then to the barn. Once there near the barn and wont leave they will go after the baby llamas and her cats which she uses to keep the rodent population down. Now i must say in all honestly she HAS lost more llamas to DOGS than she has lost to coyotes this is because coyotes are afraid of llamas and will run away but dogs are not scared and will run a llama down. Please trust that i will use lethal force only after all options have failed to try and run hem off her land.

Maybe not common knowledge for Yanks, but coyote is also the term used to describe people-for-hire who smuggle illegal immigrants across the border.

You won't find any Bullsnakes in that area. They are Great Basin Gopher snakes. For AZ you will need a valid hunting license. I don't know about UT.

Im pretty sure it applies to all ages. Most states wont let you leave with their wildlife without a permit either, which will cost you.
