Pellet question

herpin1579 Aug 05, 2004 11:00 AM

Hey everyone,

My collection of beardeds has grown from 1.1 to 2.6. I was looking for a more economical way of feeding my beardeds because the price of crickets is quite high. Right now I am almost burning through 2,000 a week. My beardies love the t-rex juvenille growth pellets. I have heard that some people feed their beardies nothing but pellets and greens. Is this ok? What are the best pellets?

Thanks
Mike

Repcal juvie is the best pellet out there IMO. Yes, some people do feed only pellet and greens, for most of my adult animals that's probably 90% of their diet. It is still good to give some live prey though, whether crix, supers, silkies, roaches, etc. Babies I feel still need a higher % of live prey but I still give soaked pellet and greens as a staple.

I agree, I don't think it's a good idea to stop all live pray. I believe you will weaken their immune systems if they don't have any. We are yet to understand all they are getting from the bugs. I do know that when I don't use any bugs, their poo runny & smelly. Even with just supers it's not as firm as with crickets. There is something they need in them. ?????
You can cut way back however. You can offer much less crickets every few days or once a week or something. But I do not recommend to stop them all together.

Where do you live? If your on the east coast there is a great supplier of repcal in FL. They have about the same price as the lowest online places (which are mostly one the west coast).
They also have great sales on stuff all the time. (supps., caves, etc.)
