Brown snake update

HerperHelmz Aug 05, 2004 11:18 AM

Well, I caught a brown snake about 2 weeks ago because it was extremely thick and had a really nice pink belly. Plus I had the scarlet king, so I was hoping she'd give birth and I'd have a bunch of feeder food. Well yesterday, I looked in the tank to see a dead neonate brown snake laying there. I looked around more and found 11. Only 2 were alive, the rest were stillborn, and the 2 that were alive had trouble moving, all were released.

All were released?? So you got them for food and you released 9 dead snakes and 2 that were near death? Why did you not feed the stillborns to your ringnecks?

Well, the stillborns, were very hard, like rocks, I didn't feel like taking the time to get them back to "normal". My neonate ringnecks of the first clutch, as of now all refused worms, slugs, pieces of salamander, and salamander scented pinky parts. I only have 1 ringneck that is interested in eating snakes, and he refuses all other snakes except shorthead garters. Plus, he won't eat any dead snakes, they have to be alive, moving, and dumb enough to go near him.
