trig/palp identification?

mattk Aug 05, 2004 12:20 PM

I have been the proud owner of a caiman for over two years now. When I bought him, he was marketed generically as a dwarf caiman, that is without the proper scientific name being parenthetically noted on his aquarium in the pet store. I would like to determine what species of paleosuchus he is, but I'm having a little trouble. I've read the fact sheet and all of the related websites that pertain to dwarfs. Can anybody explain to me how I might simply determine what species he is? My sense is that he's a trig, but I would like to confirm since that will eventually affect his adult enclosure needs.

Thanks,

Matt

The dorsal scales of P. palpebrosus are nice and neat.
The drosal scales of P. trigonatus are not as well organized.
