IT'S ALIVE .......IT'S ALIVE!!!

chameleoncrow Aug 05, 2004 12:27 PM

Hey folks!

Just wanted to share something with you guys. Today i found one hatchling that i thought was dead. He was dark, cold and hard. It was coiled up in a fetal position, and when i moved him around, he remaind in that asact position, like he was frozen. its like if i put him laying on his back, he would remain like that, with his leggs and tail up in the air.I checked for signs of breathing..and nothing. i thought to myself "too bad". but i thought what the heck, maybe i can revive him, so i put in under a heat light for a few minutes. Came back after a bit, and nothing. syill looks dead to me. so i thought i'd just give up, and get rid of his body later.

So later, when i decided it was time to get rid of his body, to my amazement, His eyes were open! HE'S ALIVE!!he was still coiled up, only this time he was sitting up. He is currently basking right now, and appears to be fine. He has so much fat around his neck, he kind of looks like a lion.

The moral of the story...
Don't discard bodies of dead things...They may still be alive!!

(imagine the collection of dead things that would be kept in your house!)

that is so cool! I would be so happy!

That is great! Hope he remains healthy

I did that with a cecropia caterpillar once. It was in a late instar and had accidentally drowned (won't bore you with paticulars) so i put it aside while getting all the others fed and when I went to get him for the compost pile (that's where I bury the dead bodies!) he moved! It ended up spining and eclosed as a large male the following summer

So I agree - keep those bodies just in case!

As mention earlier this year, I notice that R.brev do play dead sometime and it really scare of seeing it not moving. So, be sure not to throw it away unless you are damn sure....
