Dirt question

zetaphidiablo Aug 05, 2004 02:18 PM

I know that this has been touched on many occasions, but i still am looking for an exact answer. I have read many post by Robyn from Pro Exotics about their dirt/soil mixture that they put into the Uros cages. However, when i look at their site there is no exact mixture measurement there. So for those of you that have had success like him can you give me what your measurements and mixtures were. I would greatly appreciate it.

Shawn

thanks Xitch, i appreciate the fill in

you can find expanded info on that mix at our site, in the FAQ, monitor section, two FAQs on soil

my first choice would always be to find a soil locally that you can dig up and use for free. steam bed, forest, woods, backyard...

not everything works well, in fact most soil doesn't, you just have to go through trial and error

Yeah. I've been searching for that soil that's "just right". So far I've come to a conclusion. My area doesn't have good soil. I'm not giving up on it though. I know there must be some good soil somewhere. Until then, the homedepot mix works well. For my needs i don't need a great soil, because it doesn't have to hold burrows (I have sort of a fake burrow, which she enjoys a lot). If you're going the whole nine yards, it needs to be just right. You have to work with it too to make sure it's going to hold good, strong burrows. You don't want to have it collapse on your uro(s). I think they address pretty much every aspect of it in the faq, so go on there and study.
