Question....

Gpoop Aug 05, 2004 02:24 PM

I just got my first beardie and have a question. He is about 5, 6 inches long in a 30 gallon tank, has a huge wooden log a hide box and a big rock to bask on. I just turn on the lights for the first time but he been staying to one side of the tank were it's open space. Could he be scared of the the stuff I have in there? Should I take out the log and put a smaller one in?

thant's a big tank for a little BD. you might want to section it off to make it more comfortable for him. Check your basking and cool side temps. 110-115 for the hot side and 80ish for the cool side.

You don't want one end of the tank to be 110. That may make the basking spot 130 .(cooking temp) Make sure you measure the Surface of the basking spot. (the closest spot to the basking bulb). That should be 110.
The best way to measure that temp is with a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer. ($10. at Wal-Mart) Set it to outdoor & put the probe on the surface. (you my have to use a rubberband or something to hold it there).
Or use an IR. temp gun.

Good luck.
