lined leaftaail eggs

lismil Aug 05, 2004 04:55 PM

Hello,
I just wanted to announce that I just got my first fertile looking eggs from all the many types of leaftails I own, and I was surprised that my first fertile leaftail eggs came from my lined leaftails. I had heard they were so hard to breed. Now I just hope I can get the eggs to hatch, as this is something I havent had much luck with for any lizard. Im so excited, and Im gonna try soooo hard. It would be soooo cool if I could get them to hatch.

Wow. just about an hour after finding the lineatus eggs, I just found a sikorae egg that looks fertile. About 2 weeks ago I found one lone egg in my sikorae cage that was definately not fertile, and I was dissapointed because shes been laying eggs, but just one lone infertile egg at a time. I was just looking in the cage, and the male was hiding behind a temp/humidity guage I have in the cage. I opened the cage and moved the guage to have a look at him, and low and behold, in the substrate behind this guage was a perfect looking egg, Im almost betting its been in there for the last two weeks. If this egg is fertile, thats really great news, because my female is a sikorae sikorae, and I ordered a male, and I was dissapointed because when he came he was a sikorae sameiti. I wasnt sure if they would breed or not, and quite a few people seemd to think they wouldnt breed, although some people had told me they should breed. I have not seen them mate, but I have seen the female sidle up against the male waving her tail acting like she wanted to mate with him. I swear the egg looks great....so...I think I have good news here.

im just wondering whether most people find that the leaf tails lay their eggs on the ground or bury them. my female satanic buried 1 of the total 4 she laid for me, the rest were just laid beneath dead leaves. im wondering if i should dig around a little the next time i clean my tanks.

It seems that the ones I have found that are fertile are kind of half burried, or at least sitting on top of the substrate, and infertile eggs are just laid where ever. I've never had a problem finding the eggs other than this one that was behind a humidity guage, but my substrate isnt very deep either.

I recently bought a pair of c.b satanics..my female is getting really fat but I'm not sure if she's gravid is their any other signs rather then weight gain? Can you feel the eggs in her stomach like crested geckos?

ive been dealing with satanics for about a year now, and many times i have noticed the female being fat, and many times i have hoped it was due to her being gravid. unfortunately, most of the time it means she just ate a lot. i wouldnt really advise 'feeling' for the eggs because as you know, these geckos are very small and fragile. so unless you were very sure of your handling abilities, i would just keep a close eye on the substrate around your tank. from what 3 of my 4 eggs in the past were laid on top of the substrate, one was buried. if she holds the weight for longer than it usually takes her to digest, theres probably a better chance shes gravid. just keep a close eye on them and i wish you the best of luck!
