Can leos eat roaches?

Mothi Aug 05, 2004 05:16 PM

Are roaches okay as a staple diet for leopard geckos? The roaches I have are discoid and dubias, so babies are about 1/4"... I understand they should be gutloaded prior to feedig, but is it an acceptable staple diet? I don't want to deal with crickets ever again. I know they can eat mealworms okay since I have had leopard geckos many years ago, but I have an over abundance of roaches since I have nothing to feed them to and rather not ship. I originally bought a small colony of roaches about a year ago and they have done well since...a bit too well and need to be fed off. :D

They can and will apparently eat roaches
not quite sure as a staple
I dont like to feed any one type of insect to my animals as a staple just for boredoms sake.

Roaches are an excellent staple diet. I feed my leos lobster and orange head roaches. They really love them. Definitely make sure they are gutloaded prior to feeding. If you’re worried about feeing a variety just get different species of roaches.
