My snake (Monty) is making whistling noises?

savana_man Aug 05, 2004 05:18 PM

When I was putting my ball python (monty) in his new cage I noticed he still hasn't gotton the shed off his head so I helped him a little, until he opened his mouth. Then he went right back to regular monty nice and never struck at me. But when I was putting him in the cage he was making noises that sounded like he was whistling. Does this mean anything?

What tune?

JK

Is the sound like a hiss? I had box turtles that would hiss.... I have some balls do it too! They want to be left alone. Does he still make the sound after you put him down in his cage?

Yeah i think he just wanted to be left alone. he took a nip at me a while ago. Lol!! I reached in to get him just to see if he was still making noises and he bit my wrist, and then started the tune again. He better be good saturday though, he's going to the show with me. Thanks for helping!

Hahahaha thats awesome. I didn't think about that one. It would be cool to teach a parrot that tune, but I think my snake would try to eat the bird. Thanks for the help.

This could be an early sign of a respiratory infection. You should monitor your snake for additional signs including, wheezing, sneezing, mucus and other common cold like symptoms. If you suspect a RI you should immediately increase the heat to the mid-90’s. If you do not see an improvement you should see a
Vet immediately. An ongoing RI will kill your snake. Often your Vet will inject Baytril to resolve the issue.
