Tank size question...

dcnaftz Aug 05, 2004 07:03 PM

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, but have owned a adult female RES for over 5 years so I am aware of all the precautions that aquatic turtle owners have to take (basking area, diet, UVA/UVB light filtration etc...). My cousin just "donated" his adult female RES to me last month, as his new apartment complex does not allow him to keep a pet of any kind. I am currently looking to buy a new tank for the turtles so they are not as cramped currently they are in a 40 gallon tank, and I am looking at buying a tall 90 gallon tank so I don’t have to buy a new screen and light hood (because it will be the same width as my current tank). The dimensions of the new tank would be 48" X 18" X 25", I was wondering if this tank would be long enough for two adult female turtles (it will be filled near the top with a turtle dock and a wire screen).

Thanks in advance for any help.

A 90 gal would only be big enough for one grown female RES. You would need two 90's (one for each) or a least a 150-175 for the both of them.
Some one jump in a correct me if I am wrong.
