Pimbura thoughts...

maynard Aug 05, 2004 07:05 PM

What are your opinions of Sri Lankan pythons. I finally got my pair. (i will try my best and get some pics up tommorow). Those that have them what are their temperaments like? My female is really sweet and so light in color and male male is a jerk!
I have wanted some pimbura for so long and now I have some. I feel like when I got my first snake! lol. I wish they were more well known. I hate it when people say "is that a burm?" I hate it! Thanks for listening to me act like a child at x-mas.

They are known to have a horriable temperment. Then again just like anything else they can be calmed. They aren't common and are pretty expensive compared to burms. People purchase burms because they get large and are inexpensive. They are also known to big giant calm animals. I think they are beautiful and I've wanted a pair for awhile. With Dwarf burms now available I'll probably jump into that market instead. Anyways just my thoughts.

They can run the entire spectrum as far as temperament. Although, as with many very young pythons, many tend to be a little nippy at first. The sub-adult females I have are as calm as any burmese, although they are a little more animated when held. The male is more nervous and is constantly moving when held, but none of them have ever tried to strike or bite. Frequent handling will sometimes help calm them over time, but is definitely not a guarantee. The main factor to look for is the temperament of the parent snakes. This will give you a better clue as to how the young will turn out as they get older. I would really be interested to see photos of them. Good luck.

I like the Original Indian Rock Pythons that snake handlers have used for years in their act. Most are tame with a little handling and do not get as large as the Burmese! Also they tend to retain their color as adults.
