Accidental switch to rats...

domingoakasunday Aug 05, 2004 07:26 PM

I have heard that some snakes like rats better then mice and I have to say... it must be true in some cases. my mice fell out of my freezer last week and all thawed so I had nothing to feed. I didnt have any free time to get to the petshop to buy anymore so I asked my parents to make a trip and but 4 adult mice. when they returned they had 4 huge "mice". they said the guy at the shop was new and said they were mice.... I thawed one out and put it in the bottom of the feeding tank and draco struck the rat while I was still lowering him into the tank... which was quite the shock for me. anyway I figured out the next day that they were rats and from now on my balls will be on a rat diet.

LOL yep, my BP prefers rats as well... always has. At this stage in the game she won't take mice, period. ^.^

The bullsnake doesn't seem to have the same preference, though he is still just a hatchling, but the rock python is the same as the BP... wil NOT take mice, will turn her nose up at it and give us the 'and what do you expect me to do with THIS?' look. LOL

I wish I had your luck!!

I have two ch balls that did great on fuzzies, but Most my snaks are bigger and I only breed rats right now(just started mice)so today I'm trying to get them on rat pups but they don't seem to want to eat them. They go up to it and look like they want to eat it but then they just move over it.Oh well I'm sure they will come around.

That is some good luck. I have one 02 that still insists on eating mice. He has to have two or three a week to equal one rat. I just can not convince him. I've transferred two other balls, one cornsnake and one jungle carpet python from mice to rats, but he will not be tricked.

Believe me, you'll thank that inexperienced pet shop guy when your snakes are as fat as a coke can!
