skiddish baby

gothra Aug 05, 2004 08:11 PM

Hi everyone,

I just bought another leo on wednesday night, well, I found a small small aquarium shop that sells leo about a week ago, they have about 10 leos there, and most were Strips, and there were also 2-3 Tang albinos too. They are quite cheap though, at least much cheaper than what you can get from a reptile shop here in Hong Kong. While I was still thinking whether I should get one, I walked pass that shop again on wednesday night, and all those Strips and Tang ablino babies are gone!! But they replaced that with (super) hypo tang babies!! And that is exactly what I wanted as my 8th leo!!! Hooray!!

This little baby is quite thin, he is in his hide 20 hrs a day, and that 4 hrs is during the time when I'm in bed. He is very skiddish, just touch him lightly, and he'll go 'flying' in super sonic speed...

Some questions, it regurgitated a huge cricket on the first night home (when we are still in the train), I guessed that was from the 'wobbling' during travel. It ate 16 small mealies last night, this morning when I woke up, there are some really really runny waste (can't tell if thats regurgitate). Shall I be worried? How long does it take for a baby to get used to a new environment? He was in a very small box when I got him, about 15cm long, and now he is in a 15 gallon by himself. Is 15 gal too big for for him right now?

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

You should prolly get a fecal done
That's your best bet

Ok, that was his waste, I just saw him doing it 10 mins ago. That liquid waste has a very strong and bad smell to it, I took a drop of it and had a look at it with a microscope; at 100x, I could see hundreds of cigar-shaped micro-organism moving around in there.

Any idea what that could be? I'll try get a sample to the vet as soon as possible. If he has parasite, do you think he's too little to have the medicine? He is only around 6-7g.

Any advise would help!!

wow, no idea, it might be something though, their stools arne't supposed to be runny.
As for medicine its prolly best to treat it now or experience stunted growth or other problems. Your vet will hopefully know.

All i can say is good luck, i dont' know remotely enough of this topic. But best wishes to your little one

Thanks.

I just called the vet, he will be away saturday and sunday (its friday afternoon now). He could see him tonight, but its better to have a stool sample to show him; which I don't have on hand now. So, I made an appointment for monday.

By the way, I looked up the "Understanding Reptile Parasite" book, I think this little guy has Strongyloides.

and have you tried the drgecko site? They have a lot of info on parasites and treatments. Yes, you can administer meds to a gecko that size. You will most likely end up putting a small drop of a dilute form on his nose every day or so. Please keep him very well hydrated. If he has runny stool, he can get dehydrated very easily. Also my vet says antibiotics tend to dehydrate them as well. Good luck. Glad you caught it so early.
