Dum baby

I was anticipating a large litter of dumeril's babies because she looked so big. Instead, I got 7.7 hefty babies on July 30, 2004. I got caught a bit off gaurd because I had heard (didn't know on previous litters) that she would shed a few days before dropping the kids. She went opaque, but didn't shed until the 2nd of August (after the births). I guess she got tired of me watching her endlessly. Anyway, here's a pic of one of the boys.

I do usually see my females shed within a week of delivery, but have had them drop, then shed....but USUALLY when I get the litter before the shed, it's not as good a turn out as you just had! At best I use the sheds as a guideline as nothing with animals is 100% correct all the time. Well, again, congrats on a nice litter....14 isn't bad at all! take care

Thanks for the post. I did notice that she was ready to shed just before she dropped, but still caught me off guard a bit.

Is 14 about the norm these days? Both my adults were from 20 liiters 9 years ago. Do they increase with age? Am I missing some optimizing element? BTW, it was a perfect 7.7 ratio; first time I've had that happen.
