Blind Leo

pythonmomma Aug 05, 2004 09:34 PM

Ok, I bought a new Leo today. She is a BEAUTIFUL tremper albino with tangerine all over and a jungle stripe. She is AMAZING (will have pics soon) only thing is, I think she is blind. She dosen't do anything when you put your finger near her eye. Her right eye seems to always bee looking at her nose and is always dialated. Her left eye dosen't look strange though. She bumps into things and pays NO attention to food. If she is indeed blind, anyone know how to feed her? I think I am going to take her to the vet and have it looked at, but if anyone knows anything before then, I wuld appreciate it.

With the laps of color and other morphs eye sight has become a problem. Blizzards and Albinos tend to be pron to blindness more over then other morphs, at lest from the information I gathered. Force feeding with a syringe and cricket meal (avlibal in the first aid reptile kit), but fresh live food is best.

How do I get her to eat the live food though?

but perhaps she can be taught to eat when you whack her gently on the nose with a mealworm? Also I have an older girl who has started striking sideways, like turning her head when she strikes. I'm thinking she may be going blind in one eye, but if its only one, she may be able to strike on that side as long as she doesn't get too frustrated. Good luck, and let me know what the vet says.

She is a sub-adult, so someone has been feeding her somehow. She has a big tail and only looks a LITTILE underweight.

She has a vet appointment for Saturday morning and I am going back to the breeder I bought her from, she was not his offspring though, this afternoon and try to get some answers.

I knew something had to be up when I got an Tremper Tangerine Jungle for $40. lol

Went to the vet this morning. She is blind, but we are almost 100% positive she has light and dark detection, just nothing else. The vet checked for infection and nothing came up. She is going to have a fecal done as soon as she eats and poops, but the vet gave her a VERY small dose of wormer just in case. She weighs 33 grams and was a LITTLE dehydrated, but that is from the shippment time to Kansas from PA. She gave me some Nutri-Cal and told me to try squished worms and a meat baby food until I can figure a way for her to take live food. There was basically nothign wrong with my leo. The vet suggested that it was a linebreed thing, I don't know cause I don't know the breeder. The man I bought her from bought her from a guy and he dosen't know if that guy bred them or not. The guy I got her from didn't seem to care much, just said he had 2 like that and that mine would be ok. I love her, so i will find a way to give her a good life.

To top everything off, I got in to a car accident on the way home. Someone stopped suddenly to turn left and I rear-ended them and the two cars in front of them was hit to. The leo hit the floor board. She appears ok, but to be sure I took a cab to the vet and then went home. Vet said she was fine. I hope I can find a way to give her a half way normal life. Since she is 33 grams someone knew how to deal with her, I just can't find that someone. *sigh*

What a bad day

I got the leo to eat 4 meal worms and 1 wax worm. No one tell me about the wax worm addiction thing. I know abou it, thanks in advance. She needs weight and I am just happy she ate. She had 2 meallies and then a wax and then another two meallies, so no addiction thing. I am so happy!!!!! I might just sleep tonight!!!
