back from the vet...

ok, just got the float and the smear done today and it appears that the reason my gecko has a toothpick for a tail, weights only 4 grams, eats about 1-4 prey items a day, vomits and has diarrhea, and looks bummed out as hell is ... roundworms!! best 43 bucks i ever spent for a piece of mind. going to pick up a prescription tomorrow, poor little guy, they told me they would have to give it a diluted formula because it only weights 4 grams, heartbreaking. now i just wanted to ask around here if anyone knows about roundworms, or have dealt with them, do those symptoms that i've described above sound like the work of roundworms? i been poking around drgecko.com, and it sounds like it. and i dont know what kinda meds they are going to give me, but they told me it will be given orally. does anyone know what kinda meds they use to treat that now? i looked on drgecko too and saw the pancur thing, but just wanted to know if that is what they actually used. and if it is given by force feeding, or dripping on the nose. and i also saw the grapeseed extract thing in some other forums on this site. does that work at all? sorry for the rant, but i am just glad that my little guy might actually have a chance now.

PS: i think i will give it a warm bath tomorrow, it looks very dehydrated from throwing up and the diarrhea. maybe with some pedialyte. thanks again.

Yeah, that's the symptom with round worms. However, I have had geckos that had round worms and hookworms, yet have a nice fat tail. So, whenever I get a new gecko, I've decided that I would get a fecal done, so if they are invested, that can be treated a.s.a.p.

When my geckos had internal parasites, my vet gave them 2 doses of Panacur (Fenbendazole) in 2 weeks, plus some other medicine for me to give them daily. I just use a small syringe and put tiny drops on their lips to get them lick it.

In case your leo hates the taste of the medicine (some of mine do) and start wiping it mouth against everything, you can try using water to start off with, then when they start licking the water, you can slowly push a bit of medicine on their tongue, they won't notice it. This method worked for me, hope this helps.
