Anole eggs....Questions

johndoe10688 Aug 06, 2004 04:49 AM

I work at a petstore and yesterday we got our shipment of green anoles in. In the bottom of the bag they were in, there were 2 little eggs. I decided to take them home and try and hatch them bc i thought it would be interesting. So i was wondering how to tell if they are fertile? Also, im keeping them in moist eco-earth(similar to bed a beast) in a deli cup. Right now my house is sorta warm(77-78) and they should be around 80-84, right? I dont have an incubator so i figured that i could just put them on the cool side of my frilled Dragon cage. I think this will be really cool cause ive never hatch any type of reptile.
Thanks
John

THAT is one cool lizard. Are frilled lizards agressive? (Dumb Question. Or does it just like to do that gaping?) The face resembles that of a Collared Lizard. (The fact that the mouth is wide open helps it look like one.) Are they easy to take care of? What kind of setup does it have?

HAHA OK
1)Are frilled lizards agressive? (Dumb Question. Or does it just like to do that gaping?)No.....not at all. I think they're temperments are similar to a water dragon and a bearded dragon. He's just doing that cause i was trying to make him frill up.
2) The face resembles that of a Collared Lizard. Well I think collard lizards are agamids and frilleds definately are....but im not sure if collards are iguanids or agamids.
3)Are they easy to take care of? Somewhat.....they are a step above beaded dragons....and much harder than anoles.
4)What kind of setup does it have? Right now his cage is too small....its a 65 gal tank....so soon ill either have to get a bigger reptile cage....(not tank) or find him a new home cause i hate seeing him cooped up(hes about 24-26"

But they are one of the "tamer" lizards.(the pic below is of him a while ago)
Now....does anyone know about the anole eggs lol!

My anoles recently laid eggs and I didn't even know about it until I had a very little green fellow running around the cage.

I use bed-a-beast and keep the cage in the low 80's temp wise. I don't know how to tell if they are fertilized eggs or not.
My lizards must have laid the eggs and covered them up and everything else worked out fine, so I think you are on the right trail.

I hope they hatch for you, they are very cool looking when they are smaller than your fingernail.
