Tobias won't eat his crickets!

shopunke Aug 06, 2004 09:53 AM

Hey everyone, it's me again. Having another problem with Tobias.. (Of course! )

He's decided to stop eating crix. He's eaten one in three days. I get so worried about him not eating that I give in and hand over two or three mealworms. He gulps them down as if he hasn't eaten in forever!

His tank is good now, he's eacting well and I believe his stress level is down. Temps are normal, humidity is normal, plenty of hiding and basking areas. Shallow water dish, and yesterday I even bought him a water bottle to try and train him, I thought maybe he was dehydrated?

Please help, or else I may end up going nuts!

hmm well I heard that some herps get sick of the same old food over and over again, that could be why he gulped down those worms so fast. It's like us eating pizza EVERYDAY... but I dunno you might just have to mix up what you give him.. try feeding him some veggies. Variety is the spice of life

....Okay. I'll throw in some veggies I guess. I have three crix in there now... he acts like they're not there....

Thanks for the suggestions.

Oh I forgot some things... how big is your collared ? is he a baby ? When do you feed him and how ofter ? If he's a baby the crix might be too big for him. When my collared was smaller he wouldn't even go near large sized crickets he would just ignore them.. but I don't know how big your collared is so maybe try feeding him smaller crix... lol sorry I should of added that to the last post :P

He's nine and a half inches... the crickets are about the width of his head.

He's eaten them before. Just not lately.

It's really starting to get to me, I swear I've literally lost sleep over this guy. Right now I can hear him jumping up and slamming himself into the screen.

What kinds of fruits/veggies do you recommend?

hmm I don't know what to say then... sorry I can't be more help. Collareds *yes they are plants to * are good my guy enjoys rasberries... maybe some blueberries ? I just chop whatever I have into little edible bites and see what he wants. Try getting in contact with Eve, if anyone can help you it's her :D

Once again sorry I couldn't be more help... but goodluck with Tobias!

Heh, Eve has helped me so much already, I don't want to bother the poor dear anymore.

Thanks a bunch.

sometimes my guys just stop eating crickets too and then in a couple days they will eat them again. you can try the veggies but alot of time collareds don't eat them. has your guy peeled recently? walter hates to eat right before he peels (as he is peeling right now and did not chase his crickets this mornings)if his skin seems hard then maybe he is getting ready to peel. try giving him a soak or maybe give him some water from a needleless syringe. i just hold my guys and let them see that it is water and they will lap it right up. anyway good luck

Hey, as a matter of fact, he did just shed and still has a few more pieces here and there to go...

Give them a soak? What's that? Like, fill your sink with warm water, and put him in? (But with his head up?)

I put in some blueberries and raspberries about 15 minutes ago. He licked at them... that's about it.

I'll deffinitely try the syringe!

sorry. i had to go to work. yeah some little shallow tub. i have a little plastic container that i bought from walmart but some people use their tubs and what not. just make sure that there is not too much water, like he floats/ has trouble standing comfortably. he may jump around and try to get out but sometimes they stand there. just make sure the water is not too hot. if you stop by a vet's office they may have a syringe to give you or let you buy one.
