FWC info?

nosneb Aug 06, 2004 10:07 AM

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has any links to good care sheets for false water cobras, also i only found 2 care sheets on them that didnt tell me how often they feed and what to feed them. Are they supposed to be bulky snakes or slender snakes like corns? Also, has anyone here ever been bit? If so, please tell me your story on what happened.

Thanks,
Nos

Ok...These seem to be a regular questions asked on this thread.

First: FWC are bulky snakes(about on the same level as a Bullsnake or a King. They are large (poss max length of 11 ft)

Feeding is individualistic, but usually there is a STRONG FAST feeding response (watch your fingers!). Mine (a four foot male) will eat 1-2 small rats every two weeks. Netonates can be occasionally difficult to get started. Mine have allways started on fuzzies, but I have heard of others that started on fish. Misting netonates is benificial.

Temperment can be anything from docile to highly territorial. Occasional specimens will hood and thrash violently when you get near and then calm when you lift them out with a hook.

I was bitten by mine on the hand (when it was about 3')when I lifted my snake out of it's cage with my hands. I experienced a severe burning sensation that lasted for about 15 minutes.

Hey,

Did you goto the hospital or anything? Got sick for a few days? Also, do these snakes need a lot of ventilation? I drilled 1 row of holes on every side of a rubbermaid and was wondering if this would be good enough for ventilation.

Thanks,
Ben

I said ouch......and went on with what I was doing.

Your ventilation is adequate as long as the container is not whereit can overheat.
