What time to feed, finicky eater?

kb0wwp Aug 06, 2004 10:42 AM

I've had my baby ball for about 8 weeks. In that time, it has only eaten four times. The first three times it took the f/t mouse very quickly. The fourth time it took the mouse after about five minutes of waving it in front of his hide, but dropped it after a few minutes. It did come back and eat it.

Those were with hoppers, which seemed the appropriate size.

I recently ordered some hoppers through mail but mistakenly received pinkies, which are almost half the size of what he's used to. Now he doesn't seem at all interested in these. Again last night, he totally ignored the mouse. This morning he grabbed it, but immediately dropped it. Is it possible he won't eat pinkies at all?

Is there a better time of day to feed? I've tried several different times and it seems nights from 8pm - midnight is best.

My baby ball was a reluctant eater too. I purchased a small "feeder box." It's just a small rubbermaid about half the size of a shoe box. The other thing I do is feed at night 9pm-midnight, keep the lights low or cover with a towel to reduce distractions. Try some of these and see if it works. But also, don't get too impatient, sometimes it takes a while before they start eating strong.
