Aggressive Woma

mdennis Aug 06, 2004 11:16 AM

I've got a young female Woma, about 4 feet long, who has turned extremely aggressive in the last month. If I even walk into the room, she immediately coils up, gapes, and strikes wildly at the glass. She's even stunned herself a couple of times. If I hook her to get her out, while still a bit jumpy, I can hold her without any problems. Strange. She feeds fine and the only change recently was my putting her in a larger cage. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like you just answered your own question to me. Though I've never kept womas, they, like any other snake, may take a while to adjust to new conditions. You didn't say how much larger the new enclosure is, how many hides she has access to, etc. If she feels very exposed in the new home, that would very easily explain her newfound defensive behavior. Give her plenty of hides on both ends of the temperature spectrum, and give her some time to settle in. Once she realizes this is just another habitat and she will still be fed and taken care of accordingly, I'm betting she'll return to her old temperament.
