Updated photo of Pastel x Normal Clutch 37 days in, 1 dead egg, MOLD questions NEW PHOTO!

Damon Aug 06, 2004 11:59 AM

Here is a photo taken today of the clutch from that young female I was talking about. To refresh you, she was a CH'ed 2002 girl aprox 1700 grams.

She was a nice fat chunky heavy short 1700 grams so I bred her to my Snakekeeper male Pastel.

She had 5 eggs, 1 slug and 1 egg that has died.

I really am hoping the remaining eggs make it. Today is day # 37 into incubation.

I tried to remove the moldy egg numberous times and have given up since then. It is firmly attached to the clutch and I cannot remove it.

I am worried that the mold is going to attack the small window on the egg on the left side of the photo.

I've read that windows are actually dead portions of the egg itself. Man I hope the mold doesnt start eating that egg and go for the window of the egg.

just lift them out of substrate a little more..especially the rotten one....whipe it off with tissue or cotton swabs.....

just keep whiping it off dry swabs from time to time...

they look ok to me.......

.......substrate should not be too wet..I cannot tell from pic....

Damon, Is that bad egg attatched to the others? If not just get it out of there, and even if it is, I would suggest cutting it away from the others. Mold will only keep spreading.

No, if the other 4 eggs are healthy, the mold will have ZERO effect on them. Just leave it there. Cutting it away may cause more trouble. All the other eggs look just fine. Don't stress it.

It doesn't look like it was ever even fertile. No biggie, it happens.

Substrate could be a little drier, but its hard to tell from a photo.

What was the original question? Sorry, I couldn't remember...

I've never had a bad egg attack a clutch. But some people have. Its a judgement call. If it comes off without much effort, then just take it off, 'nuff said. If it doesn't just come right off, then use your judgement. That's the fun of finally becoming a snake breeder.

Hi Damon,

I would gently lift out the clump and cut the dead egg out (leaving just the bits of shell touching other eggs. Then, I'd dust the nearby eggs with a little athlete's foot antifungal powder.

You are not losing the whole clutch the other eggs look fine. Dust with antifungal. YOu'll be fine!
