Little white bugs in my cultures

numbsun Aug 06, 2004 02:06 PM

I have these tiny white bugs in all of my fruit fly cultures made in the past 3 weeks. Any idea what they are? Are they harmful? How can I get rid of them and prevent them in the future?

Thanks

To get rid of them you will probably have to get completly new cultures from somewhere on line and throw out all of your current cultures. By making new cultures you are just transferring them.

They are mites. They are really devistating to ff cultures preying on the flies and larvae. They don't like moisture so when I find them in a culture I add more water and this can sometimes save the culture. Your best bet may be to start with new cultures as amphibianfreak stated. Hope this helped.
