Looking for Opinions.......

This looks to be a pic of a northern ringneck and a really light colored southern or prairie ringneck snake. The light one, looks either leucistic or hypo. I'm not really familiar with prairies much though, so I wouldn't know if that is normal color or a color morph. Any opinions?

I am not terrably familiar with ringnecks but the colour (Canadian spelling KICKS A$$) almost reminds me of a T albino ball python (http://www.newenglandreptile.com/ball_caramelalbino.html). I would expect a leucistic to be completely white, like a luecy ball python or Texas ratsnake.

PS - Micheal, do you have any brachystoma available, I remember you advertising them in the past. How many? What Prices? Can you ship them to Canada? E-mail me at jehanna@cyg.net

Thank You
Cam Hanna

I think it is hypomelanistic because hypo means lack of melan or black pigment and it appears to lack melan. A luecistic would be white with blue or black eyes. Hypo is my bet

In the photo the skin between the scales looks black. A true albino should not have any black pigmentation. Whet colour are the eyes?

I'm thinking it has a leucistic color to it, even though it is not white. It has black eyes. The snake has a purple color to it, a very interesting snake indeed, as southern ringnecks, or prairies, do not have colors like that.

Leucism is when the very cells to produce pigments are completely gone, not just the pigments themselves. This produces a white animals ie: leucy texas rats, leucys black rats, leucy ball pythons, white gators, etc. The fact that you can see a yellow ring on the snake and a purple colour to the skin suggest to me that there are pigments present and thus not leucism.
