About to breed female veiled....but she just dropped leftovers from 3 months ago!

I have been planning on breeding my veileds for some time now, and have been recently keeping a close watch on the female who will be bred, and have been keeping both of the females (and the male) in great shape.

I left on vacation a week and a half ago (and am still on vacation) and noticed the normal saggy belly of the female i wanted to breed had gotten saggier. I figured she had some leftover eggs from her last clutch in arpil (infertile). I put in an egg laying container and informed my mom of the possibility of her laying. She called me up and said she was digging a wonderfully large hole, and had gone to sleep in it for the night.

I have a few questions on this matter:

Normally when there are a few eggs left in the female, she'll drop them within a week, she took THREE MONTHS!!! Why did it take her so long to lay the undevelopped/unlaid eggs?

I was planning on breeding her on the 11th or 12th (the day i get back/the day after), and I don't know if it's safe for her to be bred and lay a full clutch after laying. Usually one does not breed a recently bred female/female that recently laid because she has just used so much energy producing the eggs, but my female has had them there for several months, and only laid a few. (I don't have an official count yet, I'll have to convince my mom to dig up the eggs...)

Could I breed her within the next week without harming her?

Thanks!!

I am certainly no expert in this arena and won't pretend to be, but I cannot imagine she would retain eggs for that long without some sort of problem. Is it possible that she developed another new clutch and there are more than "just a few"? I would also say that you would want to get her calcium back up to a good level before she begins to develop eggs again. I am sure she has depleted much with all this egg developing/laying going on.

just my two cents

btw, cool mom
