Eggs are hatching as I type....

jigmaster Aug 06, 2004 08:42 PM

Hi all, long time reader, first time posting.

Anyway, to my delight, I noticed a disturbance in the moss of my cheapo incubator. After daintily removing some moss, I see a shell...not an eggshell mind you, but a few dark olive scutes. Oboy!

Well, I resisted the urge to take him out. I figure he/she/it has a yolk sac and thought I would just mist it down real good and wait.

I have 1 more egg that looks like it is in the process of hatching, 4 more that look good. I lost 3 (they came from two females).

Anyway, here is my question - I long do I wait before it is safe to take them out of the incubator? I have their new home ready to go, but I don't want to perforate their egg sac.

Thanks,

Jigmaster

Well, to answer my own quetion....

Within a few days I had 6 hatchling painted turtles and they did quite nicely being placed immediately in a Rubbermaid.
