Hello all,
I've been looking for some sweater boxes for a baby snake - can anyone tell me a good place to get them. I went to WallMart but all the boxes there didn't seem to have a very tight seal on the lid.
thanks

Hello all,

I use Iris brand boxes. They have sizes ranging from shoe box to large storage bins. The shoe and sweater box sizes have a groove in the lid that fits over the lip of the box. The lids also snap on very well so there is no mistaking it. Another thing I like is you can put the lid on upside down to keep the snake in while you change water etc. I have used them for baby Garter Snakes and I have never had an escape. The larger boxes have physical snaps on each end and they also work well. I get them at a store called Organized Living. The two small sizes are inexpensive but the larger sizes get a bit pricey by comparison. Iris has two lines of these but you will be able to tell the good ones. They say "Snap Tight Lid" and "stackable" on the label. The ones with poor lids are not stackable. I use a standard soldering iron to create two rows of air holes around the entire box.
I have experienced one problem with the larger storage bin size. An adult Mexican Black King muscled his body in between the lip. There were a couple of bins on top and the weight prevented him from removing his pinched coil. It is a significant injury but so far he seems to be recovering.

Thanks Randy. That particular store does not have a location near me...but I did a internet search and it looks like office depot and office max both cary Irris boxes.
I'm getting ready to pick-up a baby eastern indigo, and I was not happy with the box I did find.
thanks again,
Joshua
No problem. Keep in mind that Indigos get very large and I hear they grow fast.
Yes they do. I actually have a larger cage waiting. But I've been advised to use something smaller, until the snake grows a bit. Easier to clean and lug with me to school this fall anyway.
