Hi everyone,
I saw a product that is bedding made from Hemp stalks pulp.
I was wondering if anyone has tried it for their torts yet?
Thanks for the input,
Steve

I haven't used it, but I think it would be OK. Hemp pulp is used for paper products and clothing, and I cannot see a problem with using it as bedding, although it may get moldy when wet.
Steve, I found this product about 4yrs ago here in the UK, & have been using it for all my species of torts (Leo, Sulcata, Russians & Boxies)
It has great absorbing properties, & a new version now comes with a citronella smell, how sweet!!
In my Boxie indoor pen, even when left totally wet it performs well, with the occasional "weed" plant growing up, Hey dude!!
It's consumed on the wet food by all my torts, to no adverse problems.
All in all, it's safe to use.

Hi Graham,
Thanks a billion for your input.
I only have 3 enclosures right now, but I switched them all from paper and hay to this new hemp bedding. I tried it for about 2 weeks in my hatchling table and it worked wonderfully.
The only problem I have found with it so far is supply.
It is illegal to grow here in the US, but it is legal to import.
I have found a company in Canada that imports it from France.
They are working on a price to ship it to me in 20kg bale size.
Anyway,thanks again!!
Steve
I bet the FRench company trade name is Aubios (?), which is the stuff I started with until I found a UK company which grow's & preps the stuff here in the UK.
Current UK price is around £7 ($10~) per 20kg bale (compressed).
Last ages when used in indoor pens, however in my "Hilton" I generally use half a bale per week.

Hi Graham,
You got it. The French company is Aubiose.
They export it to a company in Canada, named Pestell Pet Products. They re-package it and retail it in some stores in the US. It goes by the name Lifemate.
The company rep just emailed me to give me the name and # of a nearby supplier that can sell me bales for $ 21.00 each.
I guess after it passes through that many hands, the price really goes up. But I don't mind that price. I think it is an excellent product.
Nice talking with you again,
Steve
