Eggs won't hatch (70 days already)

Droppie Aug 07, 2004 08:21 AM

Hello,

I've got a big problem here with the eggs.
They won't hatch at all, temp 27C-29C, humanity 70%
old fridge, Au Bain Marie)

So I decided to cut some to see what's inside.

Well the eggs I did gut were:
72 days and found a living leo but didn't make it
65 days and found a living leo but didn't make it
50 days and found a living leo but didn't make it

All full grown as hatchling but no pigment at all.

I hope there's somebody who recognise the problem and is willing to help me here.

Greets.

ps: I'm breeding leo's for about the 5th season and never did had this problem (99% succesfull hatchlings)
ps: sorry for my lack of english, hope this all still make some sense.

The only thing that seems to make sense would be a temperature fluctuation (possibly inbreeding... but unlikely here, especially if you have bred them in the past with no problems). I have to say temp fluctuations is the only thing that could do that. I would wait a little longer next time (I have heard of leos can take up to 90 days in the incubator)

Thanks for your reply,
Inbreeding is out of the question for sure.
Temperature fluctuations is indeed something what happened.
But I never thought a temp. fluc. 27C - 30C would cause so much damage.
I always did have those fluctuations, time for a thermostat.
Always the eggs did hatch at day 45 someway, but never thought they could reach 90 days.
I won't cut any eggs anymore cause I know there's live in it.'
As long as the eggs are clean I'll just let them be as they are.

Again, thanks for your time and reply.
Hopefully not all my 30 eggs are gone =(

I have a clutch from May 9th that hasnt hatched yet... the eggs are pure white and feel full... I'm going to candle them tomorrow and see what the problem is....

What day is this? 92?

Droppie Aug 08, 2004 04:30 AM

I did candle all the eggs and it all looks really good.
As mention before, I did cut some of the eggs in differant stages.
All did carry a living full grown leo without pigment.
Ié decided to take it as it comes this year.
No more cutting the eggs, just let them be as they are.
But all my hope for hatchlings are gone this year *snif*

Anyway, I hope you'll have some succes and thanks for your input.
