New babie gecko!!!!!HELP!

Echo123 Jun 23, 2003 05:16 PM

I just got a new babie leo named Echo. He is very tame, small, and looks really cool. I was wondering if anybody knows if I could feed him super-worms. I was thinking of buying a batch of crickets for one week, then switch over to super-worms & mealworms for the next, then back to the crickets?????

Is it a baby or older. Superworms might be to big for it if it is a baby. Judge the pray by the size of its head no longer than its hide or i believe 1/4 of the width. Its always good to have a variety of food for them.

If he is a baby then he CANT eat supers. They are just way too big for him. You can feed him a staple diet of mealworms and crickets though until he is large enough(adult size) to take supers. Enjoy your new leo!!!

Could you also tell me how to put a picture in the message?

If he is young, it is best not to feed him superworms now. Supers are tough little buggers (their fast and bite too!) and normally only larger leos can handle them (because they have to crush the supers heads). Just use mealies and small crickets for now. I believe a leo is big enough for a super when it is double the length of a good sized superworm.

Just curious if mealworms need to be smaller than the geckos head too? All my mealworms I just bought (I got the smallest size available) seem like they're bigger than my gecko's head... I don't want it to choke!!

Should I cut the mealies up?.. eww..

To pick out small mealworms for babies/hatchlings. Sometimes you can just pick out the smaller ones from a container, you can also often find small mealies labeled "mini mealworms" at places like petco.

It can be difficult to get leos to eat anything that doesn't love, so cutting the mealies probably wouldn't work.
