chris21 Aug 07, 2004 12:03 PM

i have recently aquired a very young snow corn and its tongue is not split and her tongue seems to get stuck to my arm and stuck out of her mouth. are these two things something i should be worried about? or are they just a minor birth defect that wont affect her life will she be ok through out the span of her babyied life that i provide her???

thanx for any advice or help you can provide me with!

don't know about the tongue sticking out but about the non split tongue.
if the tongue is not split the corn will have a harder time finding food via smell so you may have to use tongs more to move the food so the corn can see it.
all i know

thanks for your help i will try your advice about the tongs. that is the same thing i have to do with my 2 leopard geckos b/c one is gimp and the other takes advantage of her and steels all of her food right out from in front of her. as soon as the pet shop is open in the morning i will be gettin food for the snake and i will let yo know how she does!

thank you much!!

If it does I wouldnt worry about it.I would worry about it having other birth defects you cant see.Contact the person that you got it from and tell them the problem and your concerned with other possible birth defects.Im not saying your corn is defective, but protect yourself in case somehting goes wrong the first few weeks you have it...Paul

i am not sure if she feeds ok yet. ive only had her for a few days and she was feed 2 days before i got her! i would try and feed her today but the pet shop is not open today therefor i cannot feed her today but it is open tommorow and i will get some pinkies and see if she eats them ok. she is less than 12 inches long, she is very young so when i do feed her should i be feeding her the mice? or should i be trying to get the mouse maker stuff to put on small crickets for her? any more tips, help and advice you guys have for me will be greatly appreciated!!

thank you for all your help!!

They eat baby mice, also called pinkys.

I have seen a cornsnake eat a cricket, but it's definitely NOT recommended.

i know they should eat pikys. i know that from my to kingsnakes that me and my girlfriend have! but this snake is so small she is less than 12 inches long and about an eighth of an inch in diameter and i think that even the small pinkys may be to big for her! thats why i asked about the mouse maker stuff that i have heard about! but you think that she will be fine even for her size on the small pinkys?? plz reply back i can use all the info i can get!

thanx

from what people tell me you'd be supprised what they can handle i woult find the smallest possible pinky out of the freezerbad or litter and use it. the mousemaker is only a scent for the snake so that you can scent things like pinkies because the pinkies don't have too strong a scent, but anyhow a small pink should fit the bill nicely.

lengthwise and use 1/2 of it for the first feeding, and the other 1/2 for next week. But cut it while it is still frozen, as they can get quite messy if you thaw it first. Then leave it out on a plate to thaw, I wouldn't use warm water to thaw it at that point, as it might dissolve all the good stuff in water.
